چکیده

The presence of dilute hot cavities in the intracluster medium (ICM) at the cores of clusters of galaxies changes the relation between gas temperature and its X-ray emission properties. Using the hydrostatic equations of a porous medium we solve for the ICM density for a given temperature as a function of the filling factor of dilute bubbles. We find that at a given temperature, the core X-ray luminosity increases with the filling factor. If the frequency of AGNs in clusters were higher in the past, then the filling factor is correspondingly affected, with implications for the cluster scaling relations. This is especially important for the core properties, including the temperature-luminosity (LX − T ) relation and estimates of the core gas mass. The results imply an epoch-dependent sensitivity of the LX −T relation in the core to the porosity of the ICM. Detection of such an effect would give new insights into AGN feedback.

X-ray observations of the galaxy cluster PKS 0745-191: To the virial radius, and beyond

We measure X-ray emission from the outskirts of the cluster of galaxies PKS 0745-191 with Suzaku, determining radial profiles of density, temperature, entropy, gas fraction, and mass. These measurements extend beyond the virial radius for the first time, providing new information about cluster assembly and the diffuse intracluster medium out to ∼ 1.5r200 (r200 ≃ 1.7 Mpc ≃ 15). The temperature i...

Chandra Spectroscopy and Mass Estimation of the Lensing Cluster of Galaxies CL 0024 + 17

We present the X-ray analysis and the mass estimation of the lensing cluster of galaxies CL0024+17 with Chandra. We found that the temperature profile is consistent with being isothermal and the average X-ray temperature is 4.47 −0.54 keV. The X-ray surface brightness profile is represented by the sum of emissions associated with the central three bright elliptical galaxies and the emission fro...

Baryon Distribution in Galaxy Clusters as a Result of Sedimentation of Helium Nuclei.

Heavy particles in galaxy clusters tend to be more centrally concentrated than light ones according to the Boltzmann distribution. An estimate of the drift velocity suggests that it is possible that the helium nuclei may have entirely or partially sedimented into the cluster core within the Hubble time. We demonstrate this scenario using the Navarro-Frenk-White profile as the dark matter distri...

Explaining the Entropy Excess in Clusters and Groups of Galaxies without Additional Heating

The X-ray luminosity and temperature of clusters and groups of galaxies do not scale in a self-similar manner. This has often been interpreted as a sign that the intracluster medium has been substantially heated by non-gravitational sources. In this paper, we propose a simple model which, instead, uses the properties of galaxy formation to explain the available observations. Drawing on availabl...

Simultaneous determination of ΩM0 and H0 from joint Sunyaev-Zeldovich effect and X-ray observations with median statistics

Clusters of galaxies contain a fair sample of the universal baryonic mass fraction. A combined analysis of the intracluster medium (ICM) within their hydrostatic regions, as derived from both Sunyaev-Zeldovich effect (SZE) measurements and X-ray images, makes it possible to constrain the cosmological parameters. We consider both gas fraction estimates and angular diameter distance measurements....
